Marquinhos, 19, made his first team debut last July before going on to help Sao Paulo win the regional Campeonato Paulista in 2021.

Upon announcing the signing Arsenal technical director Edu confirmed the north London side have been tracking the Brazilian’s progress since his debut.

“We’re delighted to have completed the transfer with Sao Paulo, as Marquinhos was a player we had been watching for a while,” Edu said.

“At 19, he is still very young, so he is a player for the future. We look forward to Marquinhos now joining us for preseason, making his new home, and continuing to grow and develop with us.”

The £3.5 million transfer fee represents considerable value for the highly rated Brazilian, with Arsenal piping a number of sides to the attacker’s signature.

The exciting winger made 33 senior appearances in his breakout season for Sao Paulo last term, scoring 2 goals.
