The loan move will bring an end to Lukaku’s miserable return to Chelsea. His £97.5 million dream transfer quickly turned into a disaster last season, with the forward’s failure to adapt to manager Thomas Tuchel system leading to an uneasy relationship with the coach.

Lukuku’s tone-deaf interview with the Italian press caused outrage amongst the Chelsea supporter’s last season. The forward’s appearances would be limited for the remainder of the season due the outburst, with Tuchel preferring Kai Havertz in attack.

The striker earns £10 million annually after tax at Chelsea, but that will drop to £7 million in order to secure his return to the San Siro. Inter are understood to be covering all of the players wages.

Chelsea are being linked with a number of players to replace Lukaku this summer, with Man City’s Raheem Sterling and Everton’s Richarlison considered to be primary transfer targets.

Rumours are also circulating that Neymar could also be set to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer as the French side look to cut their wage bill. The Brazilian and Tuchel enjoyed an excellent relationship during the manager’s stay in Paris from 2018-20.
