AC Milan have opened negotiations with Torino over centre-back Gleison Bremer after being outbid by Newcastle United for Dutch defender Botman.

Brazilian Bremer was in imperious form for Torino last season, winning the Defender of the Year Award, with his dominant displays attracting the attention of a number of top European sides.

Milan is not alone in their pursuit of the centre back, with Tottenham having already lodged a €30m bid plus bonuses for the player.

The Rossoneri are switching targets after being out muscled by Newcastle United in their pursuit of Dutch international Sven Botman. Reports are suggesting Bremer would prefer to remain in Italy, although the financial clout of another Premier League side could yet again secure one of the Serie A champions summer transfer targets.

City rivals Inter Milan are also in the running for the Brazilian, with Torino sporting director Davide Vagnati confirming negotiations are underway, with the final decision resting with Bremer.

Bremer is a great defender and an exceptional guy – a leader and an exemplary professional.

“We have interest from many and we must try to understand with the boy, which is the best path.” Vagnati told Sky Italia:

The surprisingly un-capped Brazilian will have the summer months to mull over this future. His €30-€40million valuation represents fair value in today’s market. Torino can expect more clubs to enter the race for the defender in the coming weeks.
