AC Milan spent €29.5 million on the Portugal International in 2019, signing the skilled attacker from Lille on a 5-year contact. With two years remaining on this agreement the likes of PSG, City and Manchester United are now looking to negotiate a summer move, with the lure of lucrative contact likely to turn the younger attackers head.

Leão’s contractual standoff is fast becoming a recurring theme for The Rossoneri, with several key players already leaving in the previous summer. Donnarumma’s free transfer to PSG was followed by Hakan Chalhanoglu jumping ship to bitter rivals Inter in 2021. Frank Kessie is also set to leave this summer with reports stating he has a pre-agreement with Barcelona.

Recent history would suggest Rafael Leão is heading for the Milan exit door, with directors Frederic Massara and Paolo Maldini refusing to budge on their tight salary structure.  Leão has been in scintillating form again this season for Milan providing 9 goals and 4 assists in 30 appearances. His blend of blistering pace and skill has cemented his place as Serie A’s best attacking left sided forward.

Sterling Swap Deal of Interest to AC Milan

Reports from Italy suggest Manchester City are leading the chase for the Portuguese star with a potential swap deal with Raheem Sterling of interest to The Rosseneri. The England’s contract is up the following summer, with his age and contract demands halting negotiations and leading to limited playing time.  PSG are also courting Leão as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe this summer who seems destined to join Real Madrid.

A €70 million transfer fee is reported to be enough for Milan to start negotiations, a sum also well within Manchester United’s budget, although a lack of Champions League football will surely see Leão join their city rivals, or return to Ligue 1 with Champions Paris Saint Germain.
