He will move to RB Salzburg on July 1st and is seen by management as the long-term successor to the exiting Karim Adeyemi.

Fernando is the latest name to seal their exit from the Ukrainian outfit, with the club’s long-term future looking in serious doubt since the start of conflict with Russia. Manor Solomon has also signed for Fulham from Shakhtar in the last days, and will replace Liverpool bound Carvalho for their Premier League return.

Ever since the appointment of Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu in 2004, Shakhtar Donetsk’s recruitment policy shifted towards Brazilian imports blended with the best in homegrown talent. The revolutionary approach has been hugely successful with some stellar Brazilian names turning out at the Olimpiyskiy stadium.

Willian, Douglas Costa, Alex Teixeria, Luiz Adriano, Elano and Taison to name a few all had successful stints in Ukraine, although the current crop is now being snapped up by top European clubs in preparation for the 2022-23 season, with many players understandably refusing to return to the country since the start of the conflict.
