- The Dutchman has forged a new career on Dutch TV as a pundit
- Van der Vaart has been critical of Ronaldo since his retirement
- His controversial views on Harry Maguire have drawn comparisons to Roy Keane
Rafa Van Der Vaart’s transition into punditry is fast becoming as enjoyable as his playing career, with is outspoken comments drawing comparisons to that of Roy Keane‘s uncompromising analysis.
The Dutchman was famously teammates with Ronaldo at Real Madrid for one season. He has since gone to call the Portuguese “too boring“,in something of veiled compliment directed to his professionalism, and also regaled R9’s anger at the Dutchman’s hattrick performance against Sporting Gijon back in 2009.
So, it comes as something of a surprise that the Dutchman is jumping to the defence of his former team mate when drawing comparisons to another Goat’s failings this season:
Lionel Messi. “Messi is getting assists but look who he plays with, Neymar and Mbappe while Ronaldo plays with Rashford and Elang“. Van Der Vaart contined, “Put Ronaldo with Mbappe and Neymar not only he’ll get you assists but he’ll get you goals too.“
Van Der Vaart has been taking Dutch TV by storm this season with his outspoken comments. Threating to “walk away” live on air if Chelsea’s Timo Werner is compared to Dutch legend Van Persie is one if his best highlights, although it’s the formers Spurs No.10 thoughts on Man UTD’s Harry Maguire that have really caught the headlines.
